Solar panels can increase the value of your home by 3-4%

Installing a solar power system can add up to 3-4% to the value of a home, according to a study by Wells Fargo Bank and the Journal of Appraisers in San Antonio. Reduced utility bills are an attractive proposition for home-buyers, and can add an average $9,000 to the sale price of a property.

The Australia Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reported that the average Australian house price rose by 2.6% during the previous year to Q1 2013, the rise coming on the back of lower interest rates and improving affordability. The Real Estate Institute of Australia reported a similar rise with the median value of residential properties rising 4%.

By fitting solar panels to a residential rooftop, home-owners not only enjoy an increase in the value of their investment, but help reduce the need for coal and gas in power generation thus reducing greenhouse gases emissions and air pollution.

Installing solar panels

As well as being eco-friendly and cost effective they require very little maintenance and high quality solar panels are rated to produce 80% of their capacity for twenty five years after their installation.

An average 3kW solar power system can pay for itself within five years through energy savings and government feed-in tariffs. Most households can expect a saving of around $1100 per year, while reducing the amount of greenhouse gas produced by more than 5.5 tonnes.

Solar Hot Water systems can also be installed to help reduce energy costs. Using evacuated tubes rather than traditional flat panel technologies improves efficiency and require as much as 80% less energy than standard systems.
